Classic sugar cookies in a special form to create a perfect edible crhistmas gift.

The blog is almost one and a half years old and I haven’t shared any sugar cookie recipes yet! Since Christmas time equals cookie time it’s the perfect opportunity to do it.

One of my friend is a huge tea lover, so we always give her something tea related. This year I decided to bake these tea bag shaped sugar cookies one because they are cute af, two they are amazing dipped in some tea and three they are super easy to bake and ready in less then an hour (with chilling!).

It holds the shape perfectly but the trick is to put the rolled dough in the freezer (or fridge if you have more time) to let it chill completely. Then you can cut out any shapes you want. I used a paper tea bag as a guide to cut out the cookies and a straw to cut holes. After baking I tied some strings on them to create a little hanger.

They turn out a bit soft but they are crispy after cooling down completely.

I made a tea lovers gift box for her including some loose leaf tea, a honey dipper, a leaf tea infuser and the cookies. But you can add a candle, a little jar of honey or a tiny mug. Personalize it however you want.

You can make a giant batch of dough now and keep it in the freezer, so you can bake some any time when you have a serious cookie craving.

P.S. Don’t forget to make a batch for Santa too!

Tea Bag Sugar Cookies

Prep Time: 20 min. Baking Time: 10 min. Total Time: 1 hour Portions: 20-24 cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 and ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl beat the butter and the sugar for 5 minutes or until pale and fluffy. ( I used the paddle attachment of a standing mixer).

  2. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until combined.

  3. In a seperate bowl mix together the flour, baking powder and salt.

  4. Add the dry mixture to the wet in small batches until everything is completely incroporated.

  5. Place the dough onto a parchment paper and roll out to the desired thickness. Put it onto a baking sheet with the parchment paper and place it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes or until completely cold!

  6. Preheat your oven to 350 F or 175 C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  7. Take your chilled dough out from the freezer. Use cookie cutters or a sharp knife to cut out different shapes. I used a tea bag as a template, and a straw to make holes.

  8. Bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden brown. The baking time depends on the shape and the size of your cookies. Let them cool down completely on a wire rack.
